Finished

May 29, 2009

Yesterday was the last day. I did not have time yesterady as well as being physically shattered from the past few months (especially the past two weeks!) to post my last update. On the first board is my second project in Semmester A (Personal project). Below is my supporting work which also conatins a smaller sketchbook which was the beauty project research. The note book (Puka pad) covers both this project and also all of my important notes on my FMP project. On the second board is my FMP and on the table is my final pieces, business card and the ‘exhibition Kleenex tissues’ for next week. This is so it can be seen that the paper copies are not the final pieces and can be associated to the real ones. My FMP has a Gren research folder which is the first folder that I gathered , and a second folder (grey folder) which has both research and ideas.

I had some of the images of my fabric re-printed (just the kleenex tissues). They worked a lot better, but due to the 10% shrinkage, i still had no choice but to wash it out. This time, i only washed them out once, and put in a colour fastening so it did not loose its vibrancy.

Today i finally completed the three day back wrenching task of ironing them together with the total of 40 meters of Wondaweb. I feel they have worked better than expected, but of course are not perfect. When the fabric is ironed, it stretches. When they are then placed together, this is then stretched even more out of proportion. I ended trimming the edges, but the text are not in a perfect line no more. I am a perfectionist, and this does irritate me, but I know that this is the best I could have done in this situation. Below is my business card. I tried a variety of designs including a mini kleenex shape, but ended with this design. This will be printed tomorrow. I put my first part of my work up yesterday in the studio/exhibition space. I have put the paper copies above the table so everyone can see the true detail of them. However, the outer sleeve for the tissues has to be re sized as it does not fit the tissues to the best it could be. This too will be re-printed tomorrow. I decided yesterday that the info sheet colour looks better in the green colour. The colour not only improves the text making it stand out and easier to read, it too also matches in with the outer sleeve on the tissue pack. The beige colour looked too wishy washy on the final print compared to the green.

I am also re-printing the 5-a-day onto thicker card as even though it has printed really well onto the PPP paper, it does not feel like it has any substance to it (the paper). The beer matt too is being re-printed. It is more like a paper format in a beer matt shape. I want it to be printed on 350gms card, (the thickest they do) and double sided so it has clean edges. I will pick them up tomorrow. I have also punched holes in the third set of kleenex tissues so I can hang them for the exhibition so the other final sets do not get damaged. I will hang them in a way so the spectator can turn them over and feel them.

I prefer this colour to the olive green colour. This will definatley match in better with the pouch colour. I just need to spell check everything, and make sure i have included all relevant infomation.

I collected my printing today from the Fabpad. As it is done on fabric and has white text (the printer does not have white ink so the text is the fabric), the ink has bled in to the text. As the text is smaller in places than others, it has made it harder to read. As I was not happy with it, I went back, but they cannot do anything. Instead, they have advised me to put it in another wash, and hope the white parts (the text) can extract some of the colour to make it clearer and easier to read. I doubt this will work, but will try. So, today, I have been making a new clipboard to print the tissues onto PPP paper. I will then have these on my display wall to show the correct colours and detail that I would have hoped the actual fabric print would show. It is just the material that has let them down! If this were in the professional environment, they would be printed onto tissue anyway. What I have printed will be more of a prototype than the actual product, so by me printing them on paper, I am able to show them in their actual print quality. I will still make up the two (maybe three sets, due to the spare display set). Again, these will be the prototypes to give an idea of what the real product could potentially look.

Fab pad

May 8, 2009

I sent off my work on Wednesday for printing. It should ready next Wednesday, and then anything that needs to be reprinted, I will have a few days to sort out any mistakes by roughly the 15th. Hopefully it will not come to that and it will all be fine as this run is costing £68! I have printed off nearly three sets of everything for room for error because putting them together will be tricky, and i need so many extra’s for display purposes.

fabpad to print blog

I have now been working on the paper printing parts of the project. Some of the things I sent off for the fabric will also be sent off onto paper as I am not sure what will look best for the finl finnish. I am currently looking at paper finishes, and I like the textured paper as it prints very well. I also like the PPP paper, but the black does scratched quite easily. I will need to wait to print till I have the work I just printed because for the tissues, the outer case will need to be measured for the dimentions. So I am aiming for the either Thursday or Friday next week.

I have been working on the information sheet that will be inside of the pouch. I was going to have this on the back, but I do not want too much on the pouch where it will look overcrowded! I want to keep this to a square also due to the beer matt and tissues being square. The only difference is that it will be folded differently, therefore, the text will be worked differently to the tissues. I am currently looking at the colour of the background. I still want the text to be white as the majority of the text in this pack is white.

Again, this is not the actual green, it is a dark olive green tone. This is the same colour as the 5-a-day, whereas, the one before is a closer tone to the pouch which will be made out of hessian.

I went to the fabpad (where I will be printing all of my work). They said that I should aim for Tuesday for printing. I have a spread of 150×100cm, and will see if i can fit this into this soze. The reason for this earlier deadline is because of the textiles rush for their course. As i have a good repetoir with the workers in the Fabpad, they are offereing me a good discount. Also, the fabric i will be printing on does not always print well the first time. When printed, it takes one day to dry, another day to wash and dry, then another day to press. If after this (which takes a total of 5-7 working days), and it does not print well, then it will have to be re-printed, and take another 5-7 working days. This will then all have to be sown together, so is actually perfect for the completion.

5-a-day trial

May 3, 2009

This is not complete as this takes a long time to get right…

trial-1

The reason for me making the photographs more illustrated is so everything in my student package does not look too boring (in the sence that everything is photographed and look slike a photograph). This side of rendering an image in this way is new to me and is taking quite a while…

strip-holder1

These are not the colours that are in photoshop: the light green is a more olive green. I want to if possible try to screen print this onto thick paper if this does not print well on fabric. If this does print well on fabric, then this will then be backed onto thin card so that it does not cause friction from the fabric tissues/handcachiefs.

STI label

sti-condom-logo-1

I have made the sperm in the knotted condom to look like a fetus. The cells are the STIs, and these are both inside and outside of the knotted condom to symbolize the possible transference of an STD from either person.

The STD label: This label will have to larger than a normal sized label due to the detail of the face of the fetus/sperm.
